GLP-1 receptor agonist · Evidence-led, sources cited

Saxenda (Liraglutide)

Licensed in the UK for weight management. Daily injection.

How it works

Liraglutide is a daily GLP-1 injection that reduces appetite. It predates the weekly options and is still prescribed.

Published dosing

Per the Saxenda SmPC, the dose is increased gradually over weeks from a low starting dose toward a maintenance dose, as tolerated and as your prescriber directs.

Common side effects

Commonly reported effects per the SmPC are gastrointestinal: nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea, constipation.

What the evidence shows

The SCALE trials supported its weight-management licence; average weight loss is generally lower than the newer weekly agents.
